NonTraditional Marketing Mash by Omarr Cantú

Non-Traditional Marketing Guru. Social Media Addict. Ad Man. Movie Buff. Live Music Lover. Cigar Aficionado.

Traditional Marketing is Dead. Given this is a bold statement, but it is my belief that with a growing generation of Americans that have become desensitized by the constant bombardment of media the only way to get recognized is by taking a non-traditional approach.

Non-Traditional is the future of the industry, and that's where I come in. I love non-traditional marketing and often come across many original (and not so original) ideas during my travels out in the field. The disciplines discussed will all fall under non-traditional marketing but will include event marketing, field marketing, street marketing, and of course guerrilla marketing. This is a mash of cool ideas that catch my eye that I thought would be worthy to share with you. Enjoy the mash and don't forget to wash your hands.

Dalton Represents McDonald's at Orlando Arts & Living Expo

Dalton Agency recently gabbed their brushes and berets and participated at the Orlando Downtown Arts & Living Expo around Lake Eola. Dalton's own Mickey D's® Street Team took the streets and had a large 20'x20' set up where they represented the client Central Florida McDonald's Co-Op over the course of the two day event by distributing collateral intended to drive traffic back into the Orlando area restaurants.  The street team had plenty of guest interaction by using a McDonald's prize wheel, bean bag toss competition, Ronald McDonald meet and greet, and 20 gallons of Sugar Free Vanilla Iced Coffee Sampling! Street team member, Joe Smith, brought the experience to a new level by making the following deal with guests: If anyone sinks all three bean bags, he would do a back flip. There ended up being a lot of bean bag talent as Joe ended up completing 16 back flips for the McDonald's brand!

Artist Michelle Mardis at Orlando Arts & Living Expo

One of my favorite things about my profession, field marketing, is having the opportunity to meet so many unique and interesting individuals. Along the way, I have had the distinct opportunity to gain exposure to athletes, politicians, celebrities, and artists. Recently while at the Orlando Downtown Arts & Living Expo around Downtown Lake Eola, I encountered an artist whose creations upon canvas I have truly become infatuated with. Her name is Michelle Mardis, an artist originally from my home state of Texas, but currently resides in the small town of Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Michelle's work, filled with insight, perspective, and colors that captivate the imagination, seem to capture a moment in time as seen through a colored prism. Her work is at times even hypnotic as you can discover minute details the longer you stare at the piece. Michelle is such a wonderful, down to earth individual who I quickly felt comfortable with and almost instantly became friends with. Being the lover of Blues Music that I am, by the end of the show I invested in a print of legendary musician Muddy Waters that seemed to capture the contrast of his personal and professional soul and adventures.  I encourage you to become acclimated with her work, you wont regret it. You can visit her website or even follow her on Twitter or Facebook
