NonTraditional Marketing Mash by Omarr Cantú

Non-Traditional Marketing Guru. Social Media Addict. Ad Man. Movie Buff. Live Music Lover. Cigar Aficionado.

Traditional Marketing is Dead. Given this is a bold statement, but it is my belief that with a growing generation of Americans that have become desensitized by the constant bombardment of media the only way to get recognized is by taking a non-traditional approach.

Non-Traditional is the future of the industry, and that's where I come in. I love non-traditional marketing and often come across many original (and not so original) ideas during my travels out in the field. The disciplines discussed will all fall under non-traditional marketing but will include event marketing, field marketing, street marketing, and of course guerrilla marketing. This is a mash of cool ideas that catch my eye that I thought would be worthy to share with you. Enjoy the mash and don't forget to wash your hands.

Freebirds Street Marketing at 2010 ROT Rally in Austin

The Freebirds Flight Crew took to the streets on June 13th for Austin's annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally. It was an awesome event on South Congress St leading up to the steps of the Capital. Freebirds Street Team had some great guerrilla marketing presence distributed collateral and Freebirds bandannas in true biker form.

Peace, Love, Burritos.

Pocket Wireless' Tasteless World Cup Campaign: Over the Edge?

World_cup

Pocket Wireless, a prepaid wireless company whose primary demographic are people that cannot afford the "regular" carriers and has special rates to Mexico and other South American countries, has gone with a national campaign complete with TV, Outdoor, Point of Purchase, and Radio to 'help' promote the World Cup Vacation drawing by using the most stereotypical characters as icons. I will let you be the judge.

Texas Country Music Welcomes New Rock Sound with Slightly Legal

(download)
"It's only Slightly Legal, not quite a major crime," boasts the last track "Damn Good Story To Tell" as the College Station, Texas based band fills the air with upbeat, feel good resonance. Recently the band was recognized by Texas A&M's Campus Newspaper The Battalion and has been gaining popularity since their debut album "EP" released at Schotzi's Bar in College Station on April 23.

Slightly Legal is inspired by a large musical background spanning all genres of music Slightly Legal has a unique mix of sounds. S.L. has been described as a mixture of Texas Country, Southern Rock, Funk, and even Punk. The lyrics by Kleypas and the musical talent of the rest of S.L. makes every song different and musically Dynamic. S.L. is striving to be a band anyone can listen to and appreciate the music, and not just your ordinary textbook “Texas Country” band.

With songs that relate to the every day life of college age individuals the songs have received very positive approval from those that have heard them. The new slightly legal EP has it all with songs about living and loving life (Man I Wanna Be, Texas Highway), partying with good friends and cheap “drinks” (Damn Good Story to Tell, Keystone Keys), or just a little bit of romance to make things interesting (Forever Girl, Lost in Love) there is a song for you.

Once I heard this CD, I wanted to share it with the world not because it is an awesome compilation of musical genres, but because Slightly Legal's drummer, Oz Cantu is my brother. Even if  this wasn't my brother's band, I would still listen to the music because it is just that damn catchy. Just the other day I woke up mumbling under my breath the lyrics to "Texas Highway" as I brushed my teeth.
