NonTraditional Marketing Mash by Omarr Cantú

Non-Traditional Marketing Guru. Social Media Addict. Ad Man. Movie Buff. Live Music Lover. Cigar Aficionado.

Traditional Marketing is Dead. Given this is a bold statement, but it is my belief that with a growing generation of Americans that have become desensitized by the constant bombardment of media the only way to get recognized is by taking a non-traditional approach.

Non-Traditional is the future of the industry, and that's where I come in. I love non-traditional marketing and often come across many original (and not so original) ideas during my travels out in the field. The disciplines discussed will all fall under non-traditional marketing but will include event marketing, field marketing, street marketing, and of course guerrilla marketing. This is a mash of cool ideas that catch my eye that I thought would be worthy to share with you. Enjoy the mash and don't forget to wash your hands.

How To Make Money By Checking In with @WeReward by @Izea

...Or The Excuse To "Check In" Without Being Made Fun By A Family Member.

So at the risk of my online friends shooting me an email saying, "Hey Omarr, I think your account was hacked! Someone posted a bunch of crap about making money through twitter!" Let me preface this post by saying THIS IS NOT A HACK! It's for real!

http://sponsoredtweets.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/SponsoredTweets_med.jpg
Last October, I attended IzeaFest in Orlando, FL where I quickly got exposed to one of Social Media Innovator Ted Murphy's latest concepts, Sponsored Tweets. ST users have to qualify and are prompted to tweet out sponsored content varying from retailer specials to insurance promotions to the latest tips and trick to gain followers by using pay as you go software. I really liked Sponsored Tweets. I thought it was quick, easy and allowed me as a marketing professional to gain some extra dough while sharpening my craft. I was able to track the traffic I was driving and best of all resend out content using different variations of buzz words and headlines and play a little social experiment to see what worked. Nothing against this product other than I would sometimes feel torn between wanting to send out a post to earn that extra $1, but having a moral dillema with saying thenewest stay free Maxi-Pads worked really well. (How would I know?!?) All in all, I really liked Sponsored Tweets. It is a great program, oh and I've $34.10 since I first began "tweeting professionally" in October of 2009.

Fast forward several months to my move to Austin, Texas.

I recently jumped on the geo-targeted social media (Foursquare) bandwagon several months ago. Although it was fun (and kind of addicting), I didn't get REALLY addicted until I learned of the greatest thing since sliced bread, WeReward. WeReward offers points that translate easily. One point equals one cent, 100 points equals $1 Dollar, you get the deal. With its three ways of earning, WR has really pushed the envelope of making social media and social marketing lucrative for the marketer. I have already earned more than Sponsored Tweets in half the time. Since May 24th, the date that the program was released, I have earned $46.44! Awesome huh?!

Here are the 3 ways to earn that extra milk money:

CHECKING IN:

 #TwitPict

WeReward is a geo-targeted form of social media, so all you have to do is check in just as you would with Foursquare or Gowalla. Some advertisers such as Quizno's, Home Depot, and Chili's have opted to put up a little more cash as a reward. So you will see those offers are worth a little more. I have seen some check in offers worth as much as a whopping 300 points/$3 dollars! (Thank you Wendy's.)

FULFILLING TASKS:

 #TwitPict

Some of Izea's feature advertisers have opted to advertise by creating a task for their consumers to complete. From "Take a crazy picture with Purex Detergent," (how "Crazy" you can get with detergent is still a mystery) to "Take a picture with your favorite Coca-Cola product with a big smile. I love these because if you want to get really creative, you can. Truth be told, I go on "task scavenger hunts" when I'm bored. :-)

REFERRING YOUR FRIENDS:

 #TwitPict

You can also make a bounty by sending out tweets prompting your friends to sign up to join in on the fun. (Hint, Hint - Sign up with the link below!!)

How I Bought My iPhone 4 for $4 Bucks. Seriously.

...Or Good Things Happen To Those Who Wait.

Media_httpwwwtechtech_jsvef

I love my gadgets as much as the next guy. If I said that I didn't want to be second in line at my local Apple Store to pick up my pre-ordered iPhone 4 in July, I'd be lying. (I say second in line because being the first guy in line might have been sad.) Truth be told, I actually went to the AT&T Store on the designated early sign up day to pre-order. I poked around, played with all the iPhone 4 display models, you know like when you visit the pet store to play with the new puppies. After about an hour, I walked out. Just couldn't do it. In the end, I just couldn't drop the $299 bucks. But since yesterday I purchased the latest technology game changer for under $5 out of pocket, I'm glad I waited a few months. Here is how I budgeted to do it...

I needed cable. So I shopped around and found a hell of deal through, coincidentally, AT&T on signing up for AT&T U-Verse. Check out the link for the $300 bucks back offer. I talked my way into getting a reduced monthly rate, extra channels, the second to fastest internet, and $300 rebate for signing up. Pretty sweet deal. Three weeks later the Visa Debit cards came in the mail and I was in line for the iPhone and just in time for the update that everyone has been waiting for that fixed all kinds of "released too early" bugs.

Best part of it all, I also had a Best Buy rebate from a previous purchase that paid for the awesome, indestructible Otter Box case I have been wanting since my first iPhone 3 years ago. So there you go, brand new iPhone 4 and the best case on the market for $4 bucks. Took some time, but more than worth the wait.

Cheers,
