NonTraditional Marketing Mash by Omarr Cantú

Non-Traditional Marketing Guru. Social Media Addict. Ad Man. Movie Buff. Live Music Lover. Cigar Aficionado.

Traditional Marketing is Dead. Given this is a bold statement, but it is my belief that with a growing generation of Americans that have become desensitized by the constant bombardment of media the only way to get recognized is by taking a non-traditional approach.

Non-Traditional is the future of the industry, and that's where I come in. I love non-traditional marketing and often come across many original (and not so original) ideas during my travels out in the field. The disciplines discussed will all fall under non-traditional marketing but will include event marketing, field marketing, street marketing, and of course guerrilla marketing. This is a mash of cool ideas that catch my eye that I thought would be worthy to share with you. Enjoy the mash and don't forget to wash your hands.

Once Upon A Time, Advertising Needed A Brush

(download)

Found these great wall murals in the SoCo or South Congress district of Austin. So reminiscent of the old days that did not include pixels, but rather brushstrokes. Sometimes, if your lucky and look close enough at these old murals you might even find traces of these brush strokes, layered paints, or even palm prints from the painter who was trying to stable himself on a ladder. I love these reminders of how far our industry has come.

Old School Texaco Advertising, Less Is Sometimes More.

Photo

By gone is the era of the heavy metal advertising signage that used to riddle full service gas stations all over the country.

Now signage like this Texaco sign can be found in antique shops, on the sides of old weathered barns or some of my favorite roadhouse eateries such as Chicken Oil in Bryan, Texas, the location where I took this photo.

History Channel's "American Pickers" has recently piqued my interest in these advertising relics as a reminder of a time of some of the cleanest creative and brand recognition. Keep an eye out for these reminders that sometimes, especially with brand recognition, less is more.
