NonTraditional Marketing Mash by Omarr Cantú

Non-Traditional Marketing Guru. Social Media Addict. Ad Man. Movie Buff. Live Music Lover. Cigar Aficionado.

Traditional Marketing is Dead. Given this is a bold statement, but it is my belief that with a growing generation of Americans that have become desensitized by the constant bombardment of media the only way to get recognized is by taking a non-traditional approach.

Non-Traditional is the future of the industry, and that's where I come in. I love non-traditional marketing and often come across many original (and not so original) ideas during my travels out in the field. The disciplines discussed will all fall under non-traditional marketing but will include event marketing, field marketing, street marketing, and of course guerrilla marketing. This is a mash of cool ideas that catch my eye that I thought would be worthy to share with you. Enjoy the mash and don't forget to wash your hands.

WorldCard Contacts: A Visual Business Card System for the Daily Networker

This blog post has been much over do. So let me begin with a sincere hello my friends.

In a October 12, 2010 blog post I wrote about a game chaning iPhone app called for all us business professionals that network for a living. WorldCard Mobile scans your Rolodex and has built in text identification so that you can automatically add your new contact's information to your smartphone's contact list. Its just awesome. I think its one tool that everyone should have along with the Bump application.

Recently I came across another app from the makers of WorldCard Mobile called WorldCard Contacts. At first, I didn't see the need for this application. I was like, "big deal, so this thing is another interface that does the same exact thing as my built in iPhone Contact list." Then I watched the video and learned about its unique categorizing capabilities. If you are a visual person, this app is for you since it creates "business cards" for all your existing contacts. If you use WorldCard Mobile app, which I love, WorldCard Contacts plugs right into it and they work together. If you take a photo of a business card, WorldCard Contacts saves it in your phone so you can recall it later and is able to detect text (up to 15 different languages, like a phone number and call directly in the application or even detect an address to map it in Google Maps.  For those of us that meet hundreds of people at networking events and have trouble putting the name with the face with the business card, this really helps. Pretty cool technology.

I have to admit, WorldCard Contacts text detection is not as good as WorldCard Mobile, for whatever reason. It may be the lighting. Im sure as the technology improves, updates will be available. I thought it was a cool networking tool and thought I'd share my findings! Good Luck!
